October Unstructured
Friendship advice, how to get your hair actually clean, & Target boots no one believes me about
I highly recommend listening to the audio version of this column. It’s way more fun. It’s 14 minutes of unfiltered chaos, all delivered in one take.
If you looked on my vision board in 2018 you would have seen that my goal for my blog (previously titled Simply Sabrina and later renamed to Hey Simply) was to make the experience feel like a magazine. I have been saving spreads that I love since I took a iNDesign class in college where my senior project was to design my own magazine — hell, if you asked my mom what I wanted to be when I was 8 she would tell you “she wants to own her own magazine” — wait did I do it?
Making information simple, pretty, and easy to understand is kind of my life’s work. Whether it’s sharing how to navigate complicated friendship breakups, breaking down beginner skincare tips, or sharing information that can help a newly pregnant mom navigate this new chapter — it’s my purpose. Girltalk that you can trust.
Earlier this week we launched my first advice column “Hey Simply” which is a nod to my blog, and also a way for people to get advice on the things that are happening in their lives. The flood gates opened — and you guys did not disappoint. There are so many juicy stories that I can’t wait to share with you. (Have a situation you want to share? Reply to this email!)
📰 In case you missed it…
Today we’re launching a visual companion to my monthly unstructured post. We first did this in September and you guys loved the Sunday surprise in your inbox, or at least some of you did. This is my place to share my monthly review of what I tried, what I love, and what’s on my mind as we head into November.
Can you do me a favor? If you like this, will you hit the heart on the bottom of your email? I promise it helps!
I told my friend Becky that candy apple red was having a moment and I swear as soon as I said it, we say it in a department store window. I put on this cardigan so fast when it came in, I forgot to take off the tag. Oops, it’s on sale right now here & surprisingly very affordable.
I had three people stop me on the street to ask about my boots and literally didn’t believe me when I said Target - yup, same.
My Instagram video about the disillusioned reality of clout had you guys talking — here’s the bag that I love for fall styles.
Are you tired of hearing me talk about the new fragrance I love? Oops, am I a fragrance girly now? Maybe, this is what I’m wearing on repeat.
This chickpea dish was honestly so good. My mom sent me the recipe (as she always does) and I told her to come over and make it, surprisingly she did. 10/10
I’m also surprised that I ditched team #noshow and bought these ankle socks, but I feel like they actually look good. If you wanted to hop on the trend, try these. Gen Z says no show socks are OUT.
I’m celebrating my 5 year anniversary with this foundation and I don’t remember my life before it. It’s perfectly matte without enhancing your pores, for evening, winter, or oily skin please snag this.
I’m highkey obsessed with this YSL bronzer and I’m not really a designer makeup girlie, but I’ve seen the light. This melts into your skin.
What I’m Reading
I take Mila to the library every two weeks and I found this book: Romantic Comedy”on a “new arrivals” shelf and had to grab it. With Hallmark Christmas Movie season around the corner, I needed to pregame. This is our Super Bowl ladies.
What I’m Rewatching
I’ve talked about this at nauseam, but Gossip Girl is a cinematic masterpiece. The fact that we’re rooting for Blair and Nate one episode, Nate and Vanessa the next, and then Chair - should be studied.
What I’m Eating
Okay you know how everyone is on a protein kick these days? Well I’m a chips girlie. I would eat chips all day everyday if I could and now my lunch has kinda been that. I cook up some chicken, chop it up and put it on a bed of one bag of chips (140 calories, 4 Net Carbs, and 19g of protein). I add some cheese and warm it up in the toaster oven — girl lunch at it’s finest. It’s so filling I haven’t even been able to finish the entire plate.
What I’m Wearing
Cozy girls unite, this is our time to shine! I was on the hunt for the softest sweat sets that are cute without being frumpy and most of all PETITE GIRL FRIENDLY. They are here and I’m in love.
Goal for November
My goal for this month is to return to natural nails. I did it over the summer and took off my gel and honestly, it was glorious. I did it right, went to the salon and had them apply this polish to my hands and feet. It’s a tinted clear that helps heal your nails.
K18 Peptide Prep
If you oil your hair, you need this to get your hair *actually* clean once a week.
LM Loose Setting Powder in Medium
Take the extra 20 seconds to set your concealer with this, it won’t crease and the product lasts forever.
Belif Aquabomb
If you hate the sticky feeling of most moisturizers, try this one.
L’Oreal Telescopic Mascara
My bestie put me onto this and its the perfect SECOND round mascara. No clumping, it combs out your lashes and adds length.
